Obituary for Beatrice Elizabeth Knox (Johnstone)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bette who was in her 87th year. She slipped away peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2019.

Beloved wife of Jack Knox for sixty-four years. Cherished Mother of Dianne, Mike (Laurie) and Bill (Donna). Loving Grandmother to twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Survived by her sister Marguerite Fischer and sister-in-law Shirley Johnstone. Bette will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and their children.

Predeceased by her parents J.P. and Margaret (nee Reid) Johnstone, brother J.P. Johnstone Jr., sister Amanda Fullerton, brothers-in-law Jack Fullerton, Robert Knox, Alan Knox, Leo Fischer and Allan Seip and sisters-in-law Jean Knox and Betty Ringham.

Bette was born and raised in Walkerton. She grew up on a dairy farm on the edge of town. She entertained us all with childhood memories of growing up on the farm and the generosity of her parents who always had a hot meal ready for any visitors. Bette was a strong minded woman who joined the workforce first with the Bank of Montreal in Walkerton and then as the office manager for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food until her retirement. She loved playing Bridge with the same Club for over fifty years and was a past President of the Walkerton Kinettes. Jack and Bette enjoyed their home in Florida where Bette helped to organize many a party in the Lazy River Park.

Her greatest love was her home at the Beach where she was so proud of her red geraniums every spring. She loved to entertain from her many delicious recipes always followed by Grandma’s famous brownies and her angel food cake for her boys. She was happiest surrounded by her family especially the grandkids playing at the beach, where she always had some words of wisdom followed by a hug and a smile.

There will be a celebration of Bette's life from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10th, 2019 at the Cameron Funeral Home, Walkerton (1106 Yonge Street South) with time of remembrance at 1:00 p.m.
