Obituary for Jean Elizabeth Bowering (Brunk)

In loving memory of Jean Elizabeth (Brunk) Bowering who passed away quietly on September 22nd at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener in her 101st year. She was the devoted wife of D. Allan Bowering (predeceased) and loving mother of Correne (Ron) Scheepers, Burlington, Elva Keip, Ottawa and Pat (Eric) Carlson, Kitchener. She was loving “Gramma” to Jeff (Melanie) Scheepers, Burlington, Ryan (Yoshie) Carlson, Ebina, Japan, Craig (Kristen) Carlson, Toronto, Lily (Jordan Dias), Milton, Claire (Nick) Milton, Ottawa and great-grandchildren Jeremy and Samantha Scheepers, Sophia Mei and Jonah Carlson.

Jean is survived by sisters Della (Albert) Watts, Betty (Robert) Borders, sisters-in-law Sandra (Ronald) Brunk, Ruth (Gordon) Bell and Mary (Raymond) Bowering. She was predeceased by parents Clara and Vernon Brunk and siblings Nyle (Alma) Brunk, Delmer (Jean) Brunk, Ronald (Sandra) Brunk and Helen (John) Gingrich. She is lovingly remembered by many nieces/nephews and their families.

Jean was an active member of the Walkerton Baptist Church devoting much of her time to the support of mission work abroad. In her final years Jean spent her time knitting baby layette sets and there are hundreds of babies in the Amazon, Peru, S. Africa, Swaziland, Kenya and Ethiopia that have been kept warm by her expression of love.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Parkwood Retirement Suites for their care of Mom these last 4 years and very special thanks to the staff at the Grand River Stroke Unit (particularly Brianne, Joanne, Julia, Dr. Moolman and Dr. Hakim) for their kindness and care in her final days.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Cameron Funeral Home in Walkerton and a graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2019. A celebration of Jean’s life was held on August 24th on the occasion of her 100th birthday at a time when she was able to enjoy the occasion and spend time with all her family and friends. She was so thrilled to experience that day and the family would like to express their appreciation to everyone who came to celebrate her life.
