Obituary for Doreen "Dory" Eickmeier

Doreen “Dory” Theresa Eickmeier (nee Weiss) of Pike Lake passed away at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Centre in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the age of 85.

While Dory’s passing is deeply saddening, her life was full of love starting from when she was born in a family of 9 raised in Riversdale ON, to her passing with her husband of over 63 years by her side.

Dory’s spirit was one of family and charity.  If she wasn’t found helping out a parent, sibling or cousin (everyone was family, she contributed much of her time to the CWL in London and several decades to the Lions Club of Canada, including the Charter President of the Lions Club in Pike Lake and yearly visits to Lion’s Foundation of Canada for Dog Guides in Oakville.

Working strong for her family throughout her life, Dory was dedicated to her role with 3M, at the family ran business Danny’s Moving and Storage, and retiring from Bell Canada.  Her door was open to anyone in need, and as a result, the family home often hosted many more than the 6 children.  Dory, along with her Bindy (husband Orbin) spent winters in Florida with their Snowbird family.  Happy hours at Dory’s will never be the same.  With her love of daytime sitcoms, the Young and the Restless was an afternoon theme song in her living room.  In her later years, she would not miss a Blue Jays game or Hockey Night in Canada where her Maple Leafs were playing.

With a never-ending positive outlook for the days to come, Dory truly enjoyed the little things in life like the hummingbirds and Blue Jays that would come to her feeders.  While despising the cold of snow, there was never a shortage of gratitude for each season’s passing and those to come.  Everything in life was WONDERFUL.

Dory leaves behind her devoted husband of 63 years, Orbin and their six children Darleen and late husband Bill Robson of Mildmay, Dan and Cathy of Walkerton, Daphne Zuniga and Debby Drake both of Waterloo, Dwight and Marlene of Mildmay, and Darcy and Joanna of Kitchener. Cherished Nana to grandchildren Vanessa, Melissa, Cortney, Cayla, Carleen, Bianca, Kassandra, Dakin, Zak, Jessy, Corrina, Cassondra, Krystian, and to 15 great grandchildren.  She leaves a legacy that is unparalleled and holds a place in her family’s hearts no one else will ever fill.

Dear daughter, born to the late Willibald and late Susan (nee Stroeder) of Riversdale and through marriage to the late Alfred and late Ethel Eickmeier of Mildmay. Beloved sister of Phyllis Halk of Waterloo, Ted and Merna Weiss of Petersbourg, Mary and Norb Oberle of Cambridge, Lucile Lukas and friend Mike of London, Vern and Carrol Weiss of Elmvale, and Bill Weiss and friend Debbie of Exeter and to her Eickmeier siblings Grace Busby of Mildmay, Robert and Bev of London, Marj Shepherd of Sarnia, and dear friend of Ruth Robson who provided immense support and care.

Dory was also predeceased by siblings Jim Halk, Bill Lukas, James “Jim” Busby, Jean Ward, Earl Eickmeier, and granddaughter Amy.
