Obituary for Frank Koebel Sr.

On Saturday, September 3, 2022, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, the Lord welcomed Francis ‘Frank’ Edward Koebel Sr. home at the age of 90. Loving husband of 70 years to Mary (nee Gies). Father of Stan (Carol) of Burk’s Falls, Joyce (Dave) Hinsperger of Mildmay, Pat (Roger) Wood of Cobourg, Frank (Mary Jane) of Walkerton, Donna (Paul) Kuntz of Mildmay, Joan (Randy) Hines of Country Harbour, NS., Karen Fleet (Mike Taylor) of Whitechurch, Ken (Trish) of Powassan, and Mary Ellen (Jerry) Hellyer of Lions Head. Frank is survived by a legacy of 27 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He will be remembered by his sister-in-laws Shirleen Gies and Loretta Weber.

Frank was born and raised in Wellesley Township and moved to Walkerton with his bride in 1952. He was employed by the Town of Walkerton as a labourer and worked his way up the ranks to foreman in his 45-year career. He was a volunteer firefighter for 34 years and served a term as Fire Chief in Walkerton. He was famous for yard “Sailing”, gardening, and was always willing to help family with their projects.

Frank is predeceased by his parents Jacob “Ollie” and Mary (nee Kuntz), brothers Oliver, Manfred, John, sisters Clara Wagner, Marg Karley, and their spouses, parents-in-law Fred and Mary (nee Letzgus) Gies, brothers-in-law Francis, Carl, Harry, Clarence, their spouses, and Fred.

Mary and family are grateful for the care and compassion provided by the 2nd Floor staff at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton.

Friends and relatives are invited for casual visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Cameron’s in Walkerton. Mass of Christian Bural will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church, Walkerton. Fr. Ross Bartley officiating.

Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Walkerton.
