Obituary for Harriet Reinhart

It is with great sadness that the family of Harriet Cheryl Margaret Reinhart (nee Opperman) announce her passing on Monday, February 20th, 2023, in her 63rd year.

Harriet was the loving wife of Mervin Reinhart of Mildmay for over 40 years, and caring mother of five children Sarah of Cambridge, Laura (Scott) Uhrig of Harriston, Anne (Logan) Emke of Mildmay, Andrew (Lindsay) of Walkerton, and Celeste (Daniel) Gowland of Teeswater. She was a cherished and loving Nana to six grandchildren Gavin, Emma and Owen Uhrig, Tyson and Conor Emke, and Avery Reinhart. Harriet will be deeply missed by her sister Mary-Lou (Wayne) Batte of Formosa and brother-in-law Bill Kuntz of Formosa, mother-in- law Bernice Reinhart, sister-in-law Cindy (Kevin) Klein, brothers-in-law Don (Dianne) Reinhart, Jack (Betty) Reinhart, Bruce Reinhart, all of Mildmay, Mel (Deb) Reinhart of Kitchener, and many nieces and nephews. Harriet was predeceased by her parents Doris and Harry Opperman, siblings Lois Kuntz, Paul Opperman, David Opperman, father-in-law Francis Reinhart, sister-in-law Vicki Reinhart, and niece Mary Klein. Harriet graduated from Fanshawe College as the first female electrician in Ontario, second in Canada, and then began working at the family business, Opperman Electric with her father Harry. Harriet and Merv have farmed together on Reinhart Century Farms for over 36 years. Harriet loved her community, at a young age she delivered the newspaper to her Formosa community, was a leader with Girl Guides in Formosa, she loved to help with the annual Christmas concert lighting at the school, was the egg delivery woman to many family, friends and neighbours. Harriet and Merv were caretakers of Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Mildmay, for the last 19 years. Harriet had core group of “high school vintage camping friends” that shared a special place in her heart. They just celebrated their friendship of 45 years and got up too many shenanigans over that time. Harriet loved her gardening, and her green thumb was quite evident in all the fresh produce grown in her gardens over the years and shown in her canning of family chili and relish recipes enjoyed throughout the year. Harriet cherished spending her time with her family, enjoying many gatherings and meals together. Harriet’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and she always made special time to take them for tractor and gator rides, spending time in the barn and taking them out for special outings and activities.

Friends and relatives are invited for casual visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Cameron’s in Walkerton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Church, Mildmay. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place and interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mildmay, will be held later in 2023.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Saugeen Hospice or Mildmay-Carrick Fire Department would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com
