Obituary for James "Jim" McIntyre

James “Jim” Alexander McIntyre of Walkerton passed away suddenly on Monday, April 10, 2023, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Kathy, dear father of Ryan (Nancy), Peter (Nicole), and Mike (Alicia). Proud grandpa of Sebastian, Mary, Owen, Cody, and Max. He will be missed by his brother Peter (Angela)

Jim had many professional accomplishments during his career as a Stationary Engineer with a strong work ethic that he carried with him throughout his life. He started out in Montreal, first at Jewish General Hospital and then at the Ritz Carlton Hotel where he also served as the President of the Engineer’s Association. From there Jim and his young family moved to Nova Scotia where he worked at Dominion Textiles where he became a fixture in the community organizing softball tournaments and community events for which he received a Governor General award for volunteering.  The family made one last move to Walkerton when he took over Maintenance at South Bruce Grey Health Centre where once again, he was actively involved in organizing events in the community.

During his retirement Jim enjoyed his time to the fullest.  When he wasn’t planning a trip, Jim could often be found in the stands or on the sidelines watching his children and grandchildren play sports.  Jim was an avid golfer and was great to golf with as long as you didn’t hold him up on the course or expect to receive any strokes. Jim was a huge fan of all sports.

He continued a family tradition of organizing games, especially during Christmas (rules subject to change).  Whether living in Montreal, Yarmouth, Walkerton or while traveling, Jim and Kathy made great friends along the way.  Fun-loving, Jim brought friends together and made everyone feel welcome and like family.  He constantly made it a point to check in on people.

He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. His catchphrase was ‘Are you having one? Well ok I’ll have one too.’

Jim was predeceased by his brother Ian and his parents, John and Jessie McIntyre.

A special thank you to the first responders during this difficult time.

Friends and relatives are invited for a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Walkerton. Rev. Rob Hiscox officiating. A memorial celebration will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Walkerton Golf Course.
