Obituary for Jason Patrick Schmidt

Jason Patrick Schmidt of Hastings passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the age of 42.

Beloved son of Pat and Sheila Schmidt of South Bruce, brother of Bradley (Ashley) of Elmwood and Sarah of Tara. He was the loved uncle of Georgia, Charlie, Mac, Sawyer, and Ellie. Jason will be dearly missed by his beloved companions Gus and Stella. He will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Jason was predeceased by his grandparents Edward and Dorothy Schmidt, and Mary Bell. Jason settled in Hastings, Ontario, where he lived with his two best friends, Stella and Gus, his dogs who he loved and adored. Jason took great pride in his home and was working to renovate the building to be his forever home. As a well-respected Steamfitter and Boilermaker, Jason was a proud member of Local Union 488 and International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 128. Jason made a positive imprint on every job he worked across Canada. He will be remembered by his union brothers for his contagious smile and surreal humor. “He was one of the good ones”. Jason was the best big brother one could ever ask for, always there for Bradley and Sarah – no questions asked. He truly had the most generous heart. Best Crew Chief, Best Man, Best Friend. He will be remembered for his mischievous grin, quick-witted sense of humour, inappropriate jokes, and the way he made everyone around him feel – happy. There was never a conversation where he didn’t have you laughing. Family gatherings will never be the same without our Bear. A celebration of life for Jason was held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Knights of Columbus Hall, Walkerton. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Foundation – Tory Trauma Program would be appreciated by the family.
