Obituary

Make sure people know that you love them. Cherish both the special and the mundane moments. Laugh with children. There is no such thing as too many Christmas decorations. Nothing can beat a Lake Huron sunset.

Jean Eickmeier spent her career as a teacher, and we were so grateful to have learned these, and many other lessons from Jean, who passed away on June 23, 2020.

Jean was beloved by Roger, her husband of 47 years. The two could be seen enjoying a drive to the lake, going for coffee, having breakfast out, driving in their 1968 Coronet, and sharing each other’s company on the sun porch that Roger built on their home.

They raised two sons, Dan and Jon, and were immensely proud of their accomplishments, and the men they became. Dan’s wife Laura was welcomed as a daughter, and when Freya was born, having a granddaughter became a constant source of joy in Jean’s life.

Family brought Jean joy for her entire life. Her parents, Bonner and Ethel Gamble raised Jean and
her sister Marion in a house full of love in Woodstock. Marion and Jean spent a lifetime as both sisters and best friends.

After a visit, Jean always sent an email. In that spirit, on her behalf, we’d like to say “Thank you. It was lovely seeing you. Take care, and love you.”

A private family service will be held and a celebration of Jean’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce - South Hospice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Cards available at the funeral home

I want to express our sympathy to the Eickmeier family. Jean will be truly missed but her influence will be felt forever in the lives of the many students she taught in Grade 1 at Mildmay Carrick. The patience Jean must have had! But she always had a smile and kind words.
I hope your memories bring comfort to you.

Dear Roger, Dan, Laura, Jon & Freya, I was so saddened to hear of Jean's passing. Her kindness, compassion, and quiet ways inspired me to strive to teach just like her! I remember her leading us on piano during morning announcements and assemblies too. We were so lucky to have her at MCPS and cherish all of the memories, learning and events that she was a part of. Thank you for sharing her with us. Crystal (Busby) Ridley

I will always remember Jean as my mentor during one of my university teaching placements. She will he remembered as a sweet, quiet, gentle, caring soul. I enjoyed my years teaching with Jean and learning from her as a student teacher and colleague. In 2018 I got the chance to teach grade 1 and finally become like Mrs. Eickmeier. I send condolences to Roger, Dan, Jonathon and families. Your mom was a gem.

I would like to extend my condolences to Roger and the entire family on Jean's passing.
I was saddened to hear of this news. I had the pleasure of working with Jean at Mildmay-Carrick Public School for several years. She was a very dedicated, caring, and exceptional educator. The children she taught were very fortunate to have her as their teacher and mentor. She interacted with students, staff, and the community, with a gentle and caring heart. She will be dearly missed.
