Obituary for Jean Eickmeier

Make sure people know that you love them. Cherish both the special and the mundane moments. Laugh with children. There is no such thing as too many Christmas decorations. Nothing can beat a Lake Huron sunset.

Jean Eickmeier spent her career as a teacher, and we were so grateful to have learned these, and many other lessons from Jean, who passed away on June 23, 2020.

Jean was beloved by Roger, her husband of 47 years. The two could be seen enjoying a drive to the lake, going for coffee, having breakfast out, driving in their 1968 Coronet, and sharing each other’s company on the sun porch that Roger built on their home.

They raised two sons, Dan and Jon, and were immensely proud of their accomplishments, and the men they became. Dan’s wife Laura was welcomed as a daughter, and when Freya was born, having a granddaughter became a constant source of joy in Jean’s life.

Family brought Jean joy for her entire life. Her parents, Bonner and Ethel Gamble raised Jean and
her sister Marion in a house full of love in Woodstock. Marion and Jean spent a lifetime as both sisters and best friends.

After a visit, Jean always sent an email. In that spirit, on her behalf, we’d like to say “Thank you. It was lovely seeing you. Take care, and love you.”

A private family service will be held and a celebration of Jean’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce - South Hospice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Cards available at the funeral home
