Obituary

Obituary for Jerome Schurter

Jerome Albert Schurter, of Chepstow, passed away peacefully at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, on Thursday, March 26, 2020. He was 78 years old. He will be sadly missed by his brother and lifelong organic farming partner, Wilbert, his brothers, Elmer & Gerry Schurter, and his sisters; Eleanor Turchyn, Doreen Perry, and Helen Hesch.

Predeceased by his brothers Walter, Clarence, Brother Ray and Father Norm and by his sister Marguerite Schurter, and his parents, Alex and Elenora (nee Sadlo).

Jerome was a lifelong farmer, avid hunter and fisherman, a member of the Chepstow Lions Club and the Monsignor Zettler Chepstow - Cargill Knights of Columbus. Jerome’s dedication to the Catholic faith was evident to all who knew him. His fervent love of Jesus inspired many people who admired his simplicity and humility, his advocacy for the protection of the unborn and his devotion to prayer.

A private interment will be held at Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Chepstow.

A memorial mass at Mary Immaculate Church, Chepstow, celebrating Jerome’s life and faith, followed by a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Chepstow Lions Club or Mary Immaculate Church, would be appreciated by the family. Cards available at the funeral home (519-881-1273) Donations and condolences may also be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com

My sympathies to the family esp. Wilbur. Jerome's faith lives on in the memories of his March for Life on parliament hill for many years. I remember the twinkle in his eye and the slow smile. Rest in peace dear one.
sincerely

“ Jerome ( 4+ years my senior and a first cousin of my dad Ralph) and I both attended the former "one-room little red school house" about 65 years ago. Since then, we've seen each other only occasionally. I knew only Wilbert, Helen, and Elmer, my grade 13 teacher of Latin at Walkerton District High School about 55 years ago. The condolences which I've read confirm that Jerome remained a dedicated man of strong conviction. His siblings should be extremely proud of Jerome's life. ”

We extend our sympathy to the family for the loss of a brother Jerome. Jerome will always be remembered as a very gentle, patient and caring gentleman. I remember him as a very concerned and willing participant in the Journey Scripture group along with Wilbert and others. We had lots of questions, discussion and lots of laughs too. We trust that this man of prayer and respect for all life will find everlasting peace and Joy in the Kingdom. Len and Judy Kraemer.
