Obituary for Joan Mary Smyth

Joan (Molly) Smyth passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, in her 96th year.

Beloved wife of the late Kingsley Smyth. Loving mother of Randolph (Debbie) of Brandon, Manitoba, Geoff (Val) of Almonte, Vince of Florida and Penny (Pat) Gribbons of Port Elgin. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Kevin, Jennifer (Dave), Stephanie (Jason), Shannon (Kevin), Brendan (Brett) and Kelly, and great grandchildren Ryan, Emily, Abigail, Ella, and Darcy.
Also survived by her sister-in-law Audrey Clegg and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her brothers Tony (Mae) and Charles Clegg, daughter in law Diane Smyth, special friends June Orford and Dick Elias and her parents Aldhelm and Mona Clegg.

Molly was born in Montreal, Quebec and met Kingsley at a YMCA dance group. They raised their children in the Montreal area before moving to eastern Ontario. Molly attended business school and worked as a secretary, retiring from the Ontario School Board. She eventually settled in Port Elgin at Elgin Lodge Retirement Home where she was a resident for several years.

Molly loved parties and celebrations with family and friends and could usually be found on the dance floor. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed many cruises and road trips. She especially loved sun destinations and liked to walk, swim in the ocean and sit on the beach. She was an avid bridge player and regularly attended church, where she sang in the choir.

Molly has graciously donated her body to science through the Body Bequeathal Program at Schulich School of Medicine at Western University.

Private family arrangements will follow later.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com
