Obituary for Linda Hawkins

Linda Mae Hawkins (nee Devlin), of Walkerton, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Walkerton Hospital at the age of 72.

Beloved wife of Paul. Loving mother of Matt (April) and Tammi (Andy) Girdler all of Walkerton. Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Adam, Brett (Brittany), Natalie, Claudia and James. Dear sister of John (Irene) Devlin of Owen Sound and Ken (Nancy) Devlin of Neustadt. She will be fondly remembered by the Hawkins family.

Linda was predeceased by her brother Bill Devlin and parents Gordon and Helen (nee Chittick) Devlin.

Mom will be remembered for her zest for life. She had a lively personality, sense of humor and positive outlook! Anyone that came into Mom’s life became a friend. Mom loved people and people loved her.

Mom celebrated 50 years of marriage with the love of her life, Paul this past October. They shared a wonderful life and taught us the value of hard work. This past October they also sold their cottage. This was mom’s happy place. She loved having the grandkids at the lake and couldn’t wait to buy the next water toy for the kids or sit around the campfire.

Mom was proud of us but so very proud of her grandkids. She loved nothing more than watching her grandkids play their sports, and this also meant hanging out at the arena a lot. She loved to be a part of her grandkid’s lives.

Mom loved the community she lived in and many downtown merchants will miss mom stopping in to say hi! I am sure the steeped tea sales at Timmy’s have dropped significantly.

After working full time and raising her kids, Mom retired. She enjoyed this time in her life. For many years mom volunteered at the hospital at the gift shop as well at the Breast Screening clinic.

Mom liked her Nascar and always made it very clear we couldn’t call or make any plans if the race was on. She liked watching NHL and the Blue Jays and maybe a little too much CNN (lol)!

Mom loved to roller skate back in the day, but she especially loved to dance and had a love for any kind of music. I especially loved watching Mom and Dad dance. They could dance. I am sure she is happy to be reunited with Al and Dorrell, dancing the night away.

Don't remember me with sadness,
don’t remember me with tears,
remember all the laughter,
we’ve shared throughout the years.
Now I am content that my life was worthwhile,
Knowing that I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So please don’t be unhappy,
just because I am out of sight,
remember that I am with you each morning, noon and night.

A graveside service will take place at later date at Walkerton Cemetery.
