With deep sadness we announce the passing of Jerry Stephenson on Thursday, October 20, 2022, (her mother’s birthday) at Rockwood Terrace, Durham, with her loving daughter Sheila by her side. Jerry was a Walkerton resident for over 50 years. Born to the late Edgar and Anne Jewell in Logan Township, Perth County, she was the oldest of ten children. She earned the nickname “Jerry” while very young by shadowing her father and being his little helper on the family farm. Edgar went into the plumbing business and eventually the family relocated to Brussels, Ontario, where Jerry met and married the love of her life, Harvey Wesley Stephenson, who predeceased her in 1987. Jerry was an avid baseball player and well known during those years for her skills, leading the Brussels team as captain and catcher to the All-Ontario Ladies Championship. Eventually Jerry and Harvey moved to Walkerton where she was employed for over 30 years at Eveready Canada. The Stephenson’s began raising quarter horses and paint horses, showing all over Ontario including the CNE and Royal Horse Shows as well as in many U.S. states. Upon her retirement you could always find Jerry involved with her horses and with her trusty dog by her side. The horses were her passion, and she was so very proud of them. Jerry was still an avid rider at 75 years of age. Jerry is lovingly remembered by her daughter Sheila (Harry) Muir of Walkerton, her sisters Ruth McArter of Brussels, Jean Marshall of Goderich, and her special cousin Margaret Elligson of Seberingville, and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceaed by her sisters Doris, Margaret, Edith, Mary-Beth, brothers James, Robert, and Ted. This very special lady who was loved by all will be greatly missed by her many friends and extended family to whom she was “Mom” and “Gramma Minnie”.
Friends and relatives are invited to share memories and celebrate a very special lady.
