Ross Martin Hendershot, of Walkerton passed away at the Walkerton Hospital on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the age of 76.

Beloved husband of Margaret (nee MacGowan). Loving father of Christopher (Lori Crowe) of Toronto and Kyle (Erin) of Ottawa. Cherished grandfather of Emma and Zoe. He will be remembered by his sister Lois (Russ) Jackson of Burlington and brother-in-law James (Mary Ann) MacGowan of Waterford and missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Ross was predeceased by his parents Earl and Marion Hendershot and parents-in-law Jim and Marion MacGowan.

Ross was a Geography and Outdoor Ed teacher for 31 years at Walkerton District Secondary School. He instilled a passion for learning in his students with the many active field trips that involved camping and canoeing. Ross's greatest love in his life was spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his visits at the cottage with his granddaughters. He was an avid fisherman who hooked many a fish on the Saugeen River and the waters of Georgian Bay. Ross also enjoyed cooking and that meant every meal was a culinary experience of presentation, aromas and flavours. His cheeky sense of humour could bring a smile and a chuckle to any situation. He will be dearly missed.

A celebration of Ross' life will take place at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Walkerton & District Hospital Foundation or the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce - South Hospice would be appreciated. Cards available at Cameron's Cremation & Funeral Services (519-881-1273). Condolences or donations may be made online at

Sending our deepest sympathies to your family. I have so many wonderful memories of Mr. Hendershot teaching us valuable life skills in outdoor ed. His sense of humour always made canoe and camping trips extra entertaining and his knowledge of the outdoors taught me so much that I am still passing along to my daughters. He will be missed. OEG class of 97.
