Obituary for Liz Carroll

“Well my dear, it’s time to go….”

Elisabeth Carroll (fondly known as Liz) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who passed away on December 31st 2022, at Brucelea Haven in Walkerton. She will be missed by her loving children: son Bill (Yvonne), daughter Ruthanne (Tony), son D.J. (Jacqui); her grandchildren Ben (Diana), David (Jasmine), Tori (Geoff), Syd, Tyson (Nicole) and Hellen, and great granddaughter Harper Rose. She was predeceased by her husband Don Carroll and her mother Ruth Lancaster.

Liz started her career as a nurse at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and after moving to Walkerton, worked in the new wing of the Walkerton Hospital. She was instrumental in the creation and teaching of the RNA course. She was a nurse at Canada Packers and ended her career at Dr. Hurley’s office.

Liz always knew how to put family and friends first - whether it was hosting multiple family Christmas dinners or open house Friday nights. She supported her husband when it came to work, community, and family and with her children, she always encouraged them in their endeavors. Liz was also very involved in her grandchildren’s lives and was always ready to chauffeur them to hockey, dance, volleyball and when older to and from university- for the price of a tall boy of course. This support and encouragement continued throughout her life. Liz was always the one to push for family reunions, ensuring they would happen on a regular basis.

Liz was a kind hearted, generous, resilient, intelligent, respected, and cherished person. She could get to the heart of things and be there with a word or two of advice. Her caring soul and generosity was most evident in her involvement within the community, and how she cared for loved ones and family. She developed a close network of friends and was a key organizer of the “Lunch Ladies” meetings on Thursdays. Liz liked to work behind the scenes (never ask her to get on stage and give a speech….she would hate you) and supported numerous charities and arts events. Her generosity extended to families in need and new parents requiring extra support. Liz was a true matriarch not only of the family but of the community.

Liz’s other passion was travel. She was fortunate enough to experience many different countries and bring this knowledge and experience home. She delighted in hearing about (planning) her family’s various trips.

She was greatly loved and will be missed dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2022, at Cameron's in Walkerton. Words of Remembrance at 2:00 p.m.
