Carden "Scotty" Vickers

Peacefully, with his family at his side on Friday, November 16, 2018.

Survived by his best friend and wife of 53 years, Ruth (Kelso), children Ian and his wife Nancy, Bryan, and Sarah. Very proud Poppa of Emma, Carden, Graham, Morgan, and Madelyn. Carden is the brother of Douglas and his wife Judy of London, England. He will be missed by Ruth’s sister Jane McGugan (Doug O’Neil) and brother Fred from St. Thomas. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Tracy, and his parents Carden and Margaret.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 25th, 1942, his family immigrated to Canada in 1953. He was raised in Guelph, where he attended GCVI and is a graduate of Western University. In 1964 he moved to Walkerton to start his teaching career. Although Carden and Ruth planned on being in Walkerton for a short time, their love of the community, friends and students convinced them to make the area their home. He spent his entire career at WDSS as a teacher, where his greatest passion was coaching.

He loved reading, travel, cooking, sports, enjoying the company of his friends, and conversing with his brother Doug. Most of all, he was happiest spending time with Ruth, his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Cameron Funeral Home, Walkerton (1106 Yonge St S,) where the memorial service will be conducted on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, Walkerton (505 Scott St.).

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Walkerton & District Hospital Foundation - CT Scan or Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières Canada would be appreciated by the family.
